spotlight on: insulin resistance

Imagine insulin as the key that unlocks the doors to your body's cells, allowing sugar (glucose) to enter and provide energy. Insulin resistance is when those cell doors become a bit rusty and don't respond to the key (insulin) as well as they should. So, your body has to produce more insulin to get the job done, leading to higher levels of insulin in your blood.

This can cause trouble because it means sugar can't enter your cells easily, resulting in higher blood sugar levels. Over time, it can lead to health issues like type 2 diabetes. So, insulin resistance is like having sticky locks on your cell doors, making it harder for sugar to enter and potentially causing problems with your blood sugar and overall health.
